Protection against damage or loss to your home
If your house is damaged we’ll repair or rebuild your home to a comparable standard as when it was new. This cover includes the costs of compliance with bylaws and regulations, as well as architects’, engineers’ or consultants’ fees, and demolition costs. If your home is totally destroyed and you choose not to rebuild it, we may also agree to pay you an equivalent amount so you can build a new home somewhere else.
New building work
Distinction cover extends to any new building work being undertaken around your home and any associated building materials.
No excess on claims for windows and fixtures
You won’t have to pay an excess on a claim that’s solely for accidental breakage of a window, bathroom fitting or glass lampshade.
Home office
Distinction cover extends to any part of your home used as a home office.
Protection from liability for damage to other property
We’ll cover your legal liability if you accidentally damage someone else’s property or if you accidentally injure somebody, anywhere in New Zealand in connection with the ownership of your home. Provided you check with us first, we’ll also cover your legal fees.

Distinction Home cover provides many more benefits. These include cover for gradual damage to your home caused by water leaking from an internal water pipe or tank, a stress payment of up to $2000 if your home is totally destroyed, landscaping costs following damage that you’re able to claim for, cover for loss of rent if you have tenants in your house, and a benefit that will help pay for the removal of fallen trees.

We also provide up to $20,000 towards the additional cost of using sustainable building materials if you have to rebuild your home after total loss.
